The quality of products made in China is once again called into involved after the discovery of toxic metals in jewelry for children in the United States. The Chinese agency monitoring the quality has announced it will launch an investigation.

U.S. Walmart stores and Claire's Stores said they found cadmium, a metal used in the composition of the batteries and plastics, in bracelets and pendants imported from China. The jewelry in question were withdrawn from sale, AFP reported.

According to China Daily, the tests performed in the United States on some 103 jewelry good markets for child showed that twelve jewelry contained more than 10% of cadmium and two jewelry less than 10%.

Association of Chinese toy makers declined to comment on this case without more information.

According to a statement from an official of the Chinese General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ)), named Song, China Daily, more information is needed before drawing conclusions on this matter. In addition, Chinese authorities need to verify that toys have been exported to China via transport channels legal.

The Official Song also stated that children's jewelry are not part of the list of inspection to be conducted by the Chinese authorities and they have not been tested before leaving the territory of China.

The China Daily said that neither the U.S. nor China, have no laws specifying the limits of cadmium in consumer goods.

risks incurred by exposure to cadmium can cause cancer and lead to mental disorders.

reminder, products made in China suffer from a bad reputation after several cases in recent years regarding the toys, food or still other Chinese products. The biggest scandal involving Chinese products occurred in 2008. Thousands of children had developed kidney stones after drinking milk contaminated with melamine.
